Steelers' best QB options to replace Ben Roethlisberger include Sam Darnold, Mac Jones

  • NFL Steelers American Football The Steelers may be soon headed to a split with Ben Roethlisberger after having him as their starting quarterback for 17 seasons. Big Ben is the last first-round QB standing from the famed 2004 NFL Draft, after Philip Rivers already decided to join Eli Manning in retirement. But Roethlisberger is also set to turn 39 in early March and is coming off a shaky season of physical decline, on the heels of a lost 2019 campaign because of a right (throwing) elbow injury. Pittsburgh also is about $30 million over the salary cap for 2021, with Roethlisberger carrying a hefty cap number of $41.25 million. Steelers GM Kevin Colbert was non-committal about Roethlisberger returning when he talked to reporters Wednesday. The team cannot afford Roethlisberger coming back unless he restructures his contract. Otherwise, he's more likely to retire than joining another team. Regardless, the Steelers, for the first time in a long time, need to explore short- and long-term starting QB options. Between in house, the trading block, free agency and the draft, here would be their most viable solutions for replacing Roethlisberger if needed:MORE: SN's latest mock draft | Big board of top 50 prospects (Getty Images)[......]

  • Will fans ever forgive Ryan Braun for using performance-enhancing drugs and lying about it? trade rumors: Big names connected to Mariners' playoff push

  • The Mariners made a deal for DH Kendrys Morales on Thursday, but it’s hard to imagine he’s the only player they’ll go after as they make a push for their first playoff appearance since the 2001 season. Seattle has pieces to deal, starting with top prospect Taijuan Walker, though he’ll only be moved in a blockbuster-type deal. Outfielder Dustin Ackley has, again, failed to live up to expectations and could be seen as a change-of-scenery candidate. Infielder Nick Franklin lost his second-base job when the Mariners signed Robinson Cano in the offseason, but he’s hitting .294 at Triple-A Tacoma.  Here’s a quick look at some of the rumors attached to the Mariners … David Price and Ben Zobrist, Rays. The Mariners have been heavily connected to both of these Tampa Bay standouts, but the Rays’ excellent play over the past month or so has really complicated the issue for the team in Florida. All of a sudden, they’re within shouting distance of a playoff spot, and if they feel like they have a chance to truly contend, they might decide not to trade any of their players.  If they do decide to move Price and Zobrist, though, the cost in prospects will be incredibly steep. For the Mariners, it would start with young starter Taijuan Walker as the lead in a package deal to land Price. Zobrist could probably be had without Walker’s inclusion, but the Rays are in a very seller-friendly position, and they wouldn’t move Zobrist just for the sake of moving him. Matt Kemp, Dodgers.
