NLCS Game 6: Here we go again?

  • The Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals will return to St. Louis for Game 6 of the NLCS.That’s great news for the Dodgers, and not just because their 6-4 win Wednesday gives them one more opportunity to sample Hollywood hotshot Jon Hamm’s favorite thin-crust pizza, Imo’s. In an ideal Los Angeles world, they would have won all three games at Dodger Stadium this week to go back to St. Louis up 3-2, but at least they avoided the worst-case scenario—losing twice at home to end the NLCS in disappointing fashion. MORE: Fagan recaps Game 5 | Stats | Top images from the series | TV scheduleThe return trip to Busch Stadium is far fr夜网论坛om devastating for the Cardinals, who are up 3-2 in the series, though they would have preferred to wrap up the series early and avoid the prospect of having to face Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw one more time. That’s not fun for any opponent, and it doesn’t matter that the Cardinals won when Kershaw started Game 2. Kershaw has an 0.47 ERA in three playoff starts, after posting a 1.83 ERA this season.“It’s a pretty good feeling with Clayton pitching on Friday,” Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said after the game. “We breathe until then. We feel like Clayton is pretty much going to keep you in the game and give you a chance if you can put runs up. We know their guy is really good. It’ll be fun.”“Their guy” is Michael Wacha, the hard-throwing rookie who has an 0.64 playoff ERA. In the first Kershaw-Wacha matchup, the Cardinals won 1-0 thanks t[......]

trade rumors: Big names connected to Mariners' playoff push

  • The Mariners made a deal for DH Kendrys Morales on Thursday, but it’s hard to imagine he’s the only player they’ll go after as they make a push for their first playoff appearance since the 2001 season. Seattle has pieces to deal, starting with top prospect Taijuan Walker, though he’ll only be moved in a blockbuster-type deal. Outfielder Dustin Ackley has, again, failed to live up to expectations and could be seen as a change-of-scenery candidate. Infielder Nick Franklin lost his second-base job when the Mariners signed Robinson Cano in the offseason, but he’s hitting .294 at Triple-A Tacoma.  Here’s a quick look at some of the rumors attached to the Mariners … David Price and Ben Zobrist, Rays. The Mariners have been heavily connected to both of these Tampa Bay standouts, but the Rays’ excellent play over the past month or so has really complicated the issue for the team in Florida. All of a sudden, they’re within shouting distance of a playoff spot, and if they feel like they have a chance to truly contend, they might decide not to trade any of their players.  If they do decide to move Price and Zobrist, though, the cost in prospects will be incredibly steep. For the Mariners, it would start with young starter Taijuan Walker as the lead in a package deal to land Price. Zobrist could probably be had without Walker’s inclusion, but the Rays are in a very seller-friendly position, and they wouldn’t move Zobrist just for the sake of moving him. Matt Kemp, Dodgers.
