Vikings, Eagles both finding hidden positives as result of blockbuster trade

  • Night net The Eagles still "won" the Sam Bradford trade with the Vikings because they got a first-round pick for a high-salary player they didn't want.Tell that to Minnesota now, though. Along with Philadelphia, they're the only NFC teams that have won all three games this season. The fact that the injury-riddled Vikings and new-look Eagles remain undefeated, and teams such as Green Bay, Seattle, Arizona and Carolina are far from it, is the biggest surprise of the young Night net season. MORE: What Week 3 taught usBut here's the real twist: Although the blockbuster deal the teams made during final cuts was all about giving both teams a lift at quarterback, it really was made to help the teams' true strengths — the defenses. The Eagles are No. 1 in scoring defense, No. 4 in total, No. 2 against the run, No. 8 against the pass, No. 6 in sacks. The Vikings are No. 3 in scoring defense, No. 6 in total, No. 7 against the run, No. 9 against the pass, No. 1 in sacks.Over his two starts with his new team, Bradford has posted a 107.8 passer rating. Through his first three Night net games with the Eagles, Carson Wentz isn't far behind with a 103.8 mark. What we tend to do with every successful team in the Night net — and we're suddenly doing it with reigning Super Bowl champion Denver and QB Trevor Siemian — is give too much credit to the QB. Bradford and Wentz do have impressive efficiency, but like Siemian, their jobs ha[......]

Did Vontaze Burfict step on LeGarrette Blount?

  • Night net null null null Vontaze Burfict seemingly always finds a way to get into some sort of physical altercation. The latest incidents for the Cincinnati Bengals linebacker came in Sunday's 35-17 loss to the New England Patriots. Burfict may have intentionally stepped on the leg of Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount following a late touchdown. As Blount fought to break the plane for a 1-yard score with 57 seconds remaining, Burfict starts to high-step over the pile to get to the defensive side of the ball. Burfict's possible step on Blount's leg was noticed by Patriots beat reporter Mike Reiss.Video: From coaches film (courtesy Night net), watch Vontaze Burfict (55) deliberately step on Blount's leg after TD. pic.twitter.com/wtTPqy3XHP— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) October 17, 2016Blount takes issue and pushes Blount backward, knocking him down. Packers Randall Cobb on hard hit: I thought I had died

  • Night net null null null null Packers receiver Randall Cobb played a big role in the team's win Sunday night against the Giants, but he paid a price at the end.The wideout caught a pass late in the game that allowed his team to kneel and run out the rest of the clock, but safety Landon Collins made sure to punish him for it, hitting him in an awkward position and causing夜网论坛 the Cobb to collapse upon himself. MORE: Week 5 Power RankingsCobb opened his eyes to an odd sight. “I laid there for a second. Then I turned over and, like, I had 15 faces in front of me. So I thought I had died or something," Cobb said after the game, via Packers News. "They kind of scared me more than anything. Yeah, I took a shot, and it hurt, but whenever I saw everybody standing around me, I thought I had died. And then I felt, I saw I could move my fingers and my feet. So I knew it was all right.”Cobb was evaluated for a concussion on the sideline immediately after, but said he was fine aside from a sore neck. Todd Bowles backtracks on naming Fitzpatrick starter

  • Night net null null Looks like the New York Jets' starting quarterback job is still up for grabs. One day after coach Todd Bowles said that distinction still belonged to Ryan Fitzpatrick, he backtracked Tuesday to say the starter hasn't been named for Week 7. "First of all, after the game it's always going to be status quo because I'm never going to tell the media anything before I meet with my coaches and my GM and the rest of the staff," Bowl夜网论坛es said, via the New York Daily News . "So everything's status quo until we have our meeting on Monday evening."That means it's possible backup Geno Smith could be named the starter when the Jets take on the Baltimore Ravens Sunday. MORE: Night net Week 7 Power RankingsSmith entered in the fourth quarter of Monday's 28-3 loss to the Arizona Cardinals after Fitzpatrick threw for 174 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception. The 2013 second-round pick completed 4 of 6 passes in his first work of the season, but also tossed an interception on his first drive."When I discuss (the situation) with the staff, and when they know, everybody else will know. Richard Sherman blemishes his nasty reputation with dirty play

  • Night net Richard Sherman has called out the Night net's officiating. He's also called out the inferior quality of the league's current entertainment product. On Monday night, he was the center of controversy on one convenient play that tied into both of his recent commentaries. MORE: Must-see images from Week 9His game Monday night should be remembered more for his typical shutdown play at corner and what turned out to be a game-preserving interception. Or for his perfectly legal coverage stonewall on the Bills' last-gasp fourth-and-goal that punctuated the victory. Instead he brought the wrong kind of entertainment and fun to the game, overshadowing his well-respected nastiness. Sherman can be as nasty and physical as he wants to be, usually within the rules of football. But taking cheap shots and risking major injury to another player? That's the fake tough-guy type of moves 夜网论坛to which Sherman doesn't need to resort. That's exactly the kind of play the Night net needs to cut out. There's nothing fun or entertaining about that, except for the sports radio show fodder it provides in the aftermath. With the Bills lining up for a 53-yard field-goal attempt before the end of the first half, Sherman was penalized for jumping way offside. But he should have been flagged for unnecessary roughness for following through on the play and lunging toward and hitting Buffalo kicker Dan Carpenter.MORE: Jimmy Graham finally gives[......]

Jared Goff's absence becomes more embarrassing with each Rams loss

  • Night net TWICKENHAM, England — Gone and Goff? Not yet. There’s still more miserable offensive football left for the 2016 Los Angeles Rams. Case Keenum isn’t gone as the starting quarterback, and rookie Jared Goff will remain mired on the夜网论坛 bench. So said Rams coach Jeff Fisher in the aftermath of his team’s third straight loss, a 17-10 stinker against the New York Giants on Sunday at Twickenham Stadium. Night net SCORES: Live Week 7 updates, statsFisher could always change his mind a la New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles, who initially backed Ryan Fitzpatrick before shelving him last week for Geno Smith. Fisher, though, didn’t sound like someone seriously considering a QB change during his postgame news conference.Fisher proclaimed his support for Keenum despite a four-interception performance and the ongoing struggles in the Rams' passing game. Fisher placed the blame for Sunday’s problems more on self-inflicted mistakes elsewhere."We didn’t lose this game because of quarterback play today," Fisher said. "We lost at some other positions."That they did.A Keenum pass that bounced off wide receiver Tavon Austin’s hands was intercepted by safety Landon Collins. Dusting off his skills as a high school running back to snake from the right side of the field all the way to the left, Collins’ wild return for a 44-yard touchdown tied the score at 10 and gave the Giants the momentum they were sorely lacking early. The execu[......]

Raiders' Mark Davis tried to prevent feud between Hall of Fame, Ken Stabler's family

  • Night net Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis never wanted the current brouhaha between the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Kenny Stabler’s family to go public. Before the late Raiders quarterback’s induction last August, Davis worked behind the scenes hoping to resolve a matter that was greatly bothering him and the Stablers: The Hall’s stance toward what commemoration is presented to the family of a late player. MORE: Stabler's family criticizes Hall of FameThe Stablers were expecting to receive the ring and yellow jacket that are given to living inductees. The Hall, though, doesn’t reward those items posthumously. A Hall of Fame crest is given, instead. Davis already was unhappy 夜网论坛about the fact Hall voters snubbed Stabler while he was alive before approving his induction as a senior candidate last February, seven months after he died from colon cancer at the age of 69. The jacket-and-ring issue made him incensed.Davis and I spent 10 minutes discussing this in late July, when I visited Raiders training camp in Napa, Calif., as part of my hosting duties on SiriusXM Night net Radio. Davis said he had possession of the Hall ring given to his late father Al upon his 1990 Hall induction, and the Stablers should be given the same opportunity. Davis then told me he planned to personally meet with Hall president David Baker upon arriving in Canton, Ohio, for pre-induction festivities in hopes a change could be made to a byla[......]
